From Beijing to St. John’s, Newfoundland

Dr. X. Hong Liu is a 1985 graduate of Beijing Union University in Beijing, China. Since earning her medical degree, she has successfully treated patients in China and Canada for more than 30 years.
Opened St. John’s First Clinic
Dr. Liu worked in a hospital in Beijing, China for over 5 years as a physician, specializing in TCM Acupuncture and Herbal Medicine. After immigrating to Canada, she was certified for practising acupuncture by the Acupuncture Association of British Columbia. She is also a certified member of the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada. In 1994, Dr. Liu opened the first Traditional Chinese Medicine clinic in St. John’s. She was the first in Newfoundland to have a Canadian Provincial Acupuncture licence from British Columbia.
Manage Pain and Stress
Dr. Liu specializes in acupuncture and herbal medicine for the common cold, soft tissue injury, pain management and other chronic conditions. Her training in these areas has been extensive. Acupuncture was a part of her program of medical studies in Beijing. It was integrated into both her Western medicine and Chinese medicine courses. She also followed special tutelage for traditional acupuncture.

Research on Acupuncture Treatment for Lower Back Pain
Dr. Liu completed her Master of Science Degree in Human Kinetics from Memorial University. She has conducted research on acupuncture treatment for lower back pain, and her interest is bridging western science with classical Chinese acupuncture, focusing on the lower back pain problems.
